PIPES FROM THE IRON HORSE PIPE COMPANY

We are pleased to offer these fine pipes handcrafted by Rhode Island pipe maker, Bob Richard. Bob grew up smoking the classic Marxman and Tom Howard style of pipe – solid pipes with a generous amount of good briar. All of his pipes are in that tradition – generously proportioned.

Each pipe fashioned from aged briar that exhibits a grain that will provide a satisfying smoke. Bob hand tools every step in each pipe – using knife and sandpaper in lieu of power. His attention to detail extends to fashioning each tenon so that, while remaining tight in the shank, the stem can be easily removed from a hot bowl during smoking to clean.

Every Iron Horse pipe is naturally finished – just fine sanding and waxing – no oils, varnish or shellac. The natural crafting extends to the inside of the bowl that is either left rough or if may be “pre-smoked” with Bob’s own bellows system. Either approach assures that each pipe is free of foul-tasting goop.

Iron Horse pipes have a comfortable “acoustic” feel. No fills – the pits are left to add to the character of the briar; and the sizing is generous.

Having smoked a number of his pipes, we can attest to both the quality of the briar and the superb smoking characteristics of these pipes.
